Follow the how to instructions below to Connect a D-Link 300G+ ADSL Router Modem to a Dual Ethernet Airport Base Station.

Equipment:

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.2 & 10.3
Dual Ethernet Airport Base Station
D-Link 300G+ ADSL Router Modem


G4 1.0GB 15" PowerBook
Airport Card - 802.11g
512MB PC2700 DDR333 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon AGP 4x

G4 1.2GHz 12" iBook
Airport Card - 802.11g
640MB PC2100 DDR266 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 AGP 4x

First perform a full reset on both the D-Link 300G+ and the Airport Base Station (ABS).

Both devices (ABS & D-Link) have a small button that needs to be pressed.

Connect the D-Link 300G+ ADSL Router Modem to the Airport Base Station with the straight through ethernet cable into the RJ45 WAN port. The WAN port is the one with the ring of lines.

Configuring the Airport Base Station with Airport Admin Utility

Internet Settings:

Connect Using: Ethernet

Configure: Manually

IP Address: 192.168.0.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Router Address: 192.168.0.254

Press the update button and the Airport Base Station will restart.

Open your web browser (seems to have problems with Safari works ok with Netscape)

Type in url: 192.168.0.1

User Name: admin

Password: admin

Configure the D-Link ADSL Router Modem according to your ISP settings.

UK ISP's normal settings: PPPoA VCMUX CHAP

User Name: Supplied by your ISP

Password: Supplied by your ISP

When all details filled in click OK and the D-Link ADSL Router Modem will restart.

Log back into the D-Link ADSL Router Modem: again put 192.168.0.1 in your web browser.

The PPP information should show your IP address and connection status which should say "Connected".

Close web browser, go back to Airport Admin Utility and in Internet Settings: Change

Configure: Manually

to

Configure: Using DHCP

and finally put in

DHCP Client: 192.168.0.1

Press the update button and the Airport Base Station will restart.

Set your Mac's Airport internet setting to get it's IP address by DHCP (System Prefs>>Network) and you'll be wires free !
